Melbourne Airport Rail has recently released concept designs of the long awaited Airport Rail.
The design outlines the new rail bridge that will be built alongside the existing heritage-listed rail bridge over the Maribyrnong River. The new bridge is expected to be 550 metres long and 50 metres high which will make it the second highest bridge in Melbourne.
Airport trains will run through the Metro Tunnel which will allow the majority of Victorians to get to the airport with just one interchange from their closest station. The Sunshine Super Hub in Melbourne’s West will become a key station for the airport service and form an important part of the Melbourne Airport Rail.
The Morrison Government has announced that this major investment is expected to deliver approximately 8,000 construction jobs with both the Commonwealth and State Governments committing up to $5 billion each.
Melbourne Airport Rail has a targeted operational date for the service of 2029, this is subject to relevant Australian and Victorian Government planning, environmental and other government approvals.
