With assistance from the Suburban Revitalization Program, our regions historic Altona foreshore is expected to receive a $12.9 million funding packing to upgrade and revitalize the foreshore and surrounding area.
The upgrade will deliver a new main beach entry and promenade, shared bike and walking trails, a raised seawall, two beach access ramps and new viewing and rest areas.
This will also provide shade and vegetation, new facilities such as drinking fountains and beach showers with art sculptures and street furniture to compliment the precinct.
The Altona Beach Precinct redevelopment is being led by the Hobsons Bay City Council and aims to ensure the better protection of the foreshore while delivering an exciting space that will host outdoor markets, festivals and community events. Works are expected to commence in August 2021 with the project due to be complete early by 2024.
