Tour of Port of Melbourne
The LeadWest Board of Directors, and key stakeholders attended a tour of Melbourne's main port, hosted by Stephen Bradford, CEO of Port of Melbourne Corporation. Attendees were briefed on the Port of Melbourne's strategic priorities and toured the port precinct.
As Australia's busiest container port, the POM is a major engine of economic growth in Victoria and a major employer. Many of the key enterprises located in Melbourne's western suburbs have a strong relationship with and interdependence upon the POM.
Growth in trade volumes has necessitated the need to deepen the shipping channel in order to accommodate larger container ships. This dredging process, whilst initially being of concern to stakeholders, has been carried out within strict environmental guidelines. The tour offered attendees an insight into the workings of the channel deepending project and the impact the project will have on the industries located within the Port of Melbourne.
