Footscray Renewal Program
Description:
Footscray has been identified as a Central Activity Destrict by the Victorian State Government with emphasis on more housing, employment, recreation and commercial opportunities all within an improved public transport network. The suburb of Footscray is home to over 11,000 people with over 35% of the population being CALD communities (cultural and linguistically diverse) over 165 languages.
Location:
- Ten minutes from the heart of Melbourne;
- Five minutes from the national rail centre;
- Twenty minutes from Melbourne's International Airport;
- Five minutes from the Port of Melbourne.
Transport Links:
Footscray is the transport hub of the western region with the second busiest public transport interchange in Melbourne. Footscray is located at the junction of the St Albans and Williamstown/Werribee lines and as such, has high frequencies of passenger train services. Three regional fast rail services pass through Footscray staiton - to Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo. The estimated week day number of passengers using Footscray Station is estimated at 12,000. This is expected to double within the next 10 years.
Footscray station has three suburban train lines running through it including the St Albans, Williamstown and the Werribee lines. Sixteen different bus services service the area as well as a tram service between Footscray to Moonee Ponds.
Public transport patronage is relatively high with 12% of all work trips made by public transport compared with the Melbourne average of 10%
